Head Coach Bill Johnson

Coach Johnson is a graduate of Flinthills HighSchool, Rosalia, KS. He graduated from Fort Hays University, Hays, with a B.S. in health and human performance. His major was physical education.

As a wrestler for Fort Hays, he won the NAIA National championship at 118 pounds in 1987, was NAIA national runnerup in 1986 and 1989 and placed fourth nationally in 1988. He was an NAIA Wrestling Academic All-American in 1988 and 1989.

Coach Johnson was also chosen the Outstanding Senior Male Athlete at Fort Hays in 1989. He also placed in the top Ten at the Final Olympic Wrestling Trials at 114.5 pounds in 1988.

He is a member of the Executve Board of the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association and a member of the Executive Board of the USA Wrestling-Kansas Inc. He has been very active in the USAW-Ks as Jr. Director and Head Freestyle Coach from 1994-2002.

Coach Johnson has directed NCHS Wrestling Teams to the following 3-2-S State Trophies:

3 State Titles (2004, 2005, 2006)

3 State-Runner-up Finishes (1997, 1998, 2003). 

3 Third Place finishes (1996, 2001, 2007).

1 Forth Place finish in (2008)

Coach Johnson has been selected 3-2-1A Coach of the Year in 1997, and 2001.

 


Asst. Coach Doug Ray

Asst. Coach Ray is a graduate of FHSU and is currently employed full time s a loan officer at First Securtiy Bank in Norton. Coach Ray has been an active Coach with the Norton Wrestling Club for many years. He was brought on the High School staff in 1999 and has been a valuable assest with the upper weights.

 


Asst. Coach Shane Miller

Coach Miller is a graduate of Kinsley High School, Kinsley Kansas.  He graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1990 with a teaching degree in Biological Sciences and earned his Masters degree in Counselor Education from Emporia State University, Emporia Ks, in 1998. 

He placed 2nd at the 3-2-1a state tournament in 1985 and continued his wrestling career on the nationally competitive Garden City Community College wrestling team.  He was an NJCAA Academic All-American in 1986 and 1987.  

Coach Miller began his coaching career at Eureka High School in Eureka Kansas, where he was the head coach for 14 years.  He started the USA wrestling program and junior high programs in Eureka as well.  As the high school head coach he posted a 132-63-3 career dual record, his teams won six Regional Championships, one Regional Runner Up finish, and several top 10 finishes at state.  He was named the KWOA “Coach of The Year” in 2001. 

 

Finally, he joined the Blue Jay staff in 2006-2007 where he an assistant coach and the head junior high wrestling coach.  He also serves as the high school counselor.

 

 



Asst. Coach Chance McKinney

Coach McKinney is a 2000 Graduate of Stockton High School.  Where he was a 4 year Wrestling Team member and placed 3rd in the 3-2-1A State Wrestling Tourn. In 2000.

 He is also a 2005 Graduate of FHSU with a B.S. in Technology Studies and Secondary Education.  While at FHSU Mckinney spent time on the FHSU wrestling team and achieved academic honors.  He then choose to turn to coaching in his final years as a FHSU Student.  McKinney served as assistant wrestling Coach at Hays-Felton Middle School for one year.  And  then took to coaching at Hays-Kennedy Middle School, serving as assistant coach for two years and head coach for one year. 

Upon graduating from FHSU McKinney served as Head Middle school and High School Wrestling Coach in Lincoln Kansas for one year.  Finally Coach McKinney joined the Bluejays as Assistant High School Wr. Coach in the 2006-07 school year.  He is teaching Industrial Arts.
